Beach Beads are Back!

It's that time of year again, when I start dreaming of the ocean. I grew up in San Diego, CA and I have always been drawn to the sea. After I moved to the mountains, I wanted to bring a little of the beach to my inland locale, so I came up with this design. It was featured on the cover of the Spring 2005 issue of PolymerCafe magazine. I use real seashells and pearls along with the polymer clay components. You can see more of these in my Flickr photostream: http://www.flickr.com/photos/cheryls-art/sets/

Will I Ever Get Tired of Polymer Clay?

I haven't yet. I said for a long time that I wouldn't make beads that had to be sanded and buffed. Well, I lied. I've been making lots of sanded and buffed beads. I sanded my finger tips off! But I think it was worth it. Check out my photostream on Flickr:

Shown above are a few of the beads you'll see there.

Here we go!

I've been trying to start this blog for weeks and just haven't been able to figure out what to say. It amazes me how people write these really nice blogs. I think it's because I have to talk about myself which is something I always have trouble doing.

Anyway, I wanted to post something that I've done creatively, but not just the usual beads. These bookmarks are made of polymer clay and employ a group of techniques to get this look. There are inks, mica powders, liquid clay, texture plates and canes all combined on these. I thought they'd sell but there wasn't much interest, which really surprised me. It just goes to prove you can't predict what people will like.
